“Finally somewhere in Derby that serves great food!”

Over the last few years we have been looking for somewhere great to eat in Derby, without much luck, until a friend told us about a little place that had just opened, called Iberico World Tapas!Iberico

So, with much intrepidation, we thought we’d give it a go. After all it couldn’t be much worse that some of the places we’ve eaten at in Derby. Iberico World Tapas, is an offspring of the Nottingham Iberico, which is the brain child of the owners at ‘World Service Restaurant’, somewhere we also love in Nottingham, so we hoped that the food and service would be of a similar high standard , and we were not just pleasantly surprised, but actually elated after our first meal there – Finally we’ve found somewhere that can serve beautifully presented, well cooked food, with good service and a great atmosphere, that wasn’t the price of a Michelin starred restaurant… And, it is in Derby!!

We ordered what we thought would be a good selection of food, only to be told that we had probably ordered too much (typical us!), but being big eaters, we kept the order, and we were so pleased that we did. In reality, we could have ordered everything off the menu as it all looked delicious, but were happy with our choices. Beef skewers, salt and peppered squid, inside-out chicken wings, miso salmon, crispy pork belly, scallops, chorizo in red wine, patatas bravas, hams, olives, bread, oil…it just kept on coming, but we had no trouble eating it – it was all delicious and left us wanting more and more. The cooking of the food was excellent too – the beef skewers, normally cooked to within an inch of their lives were tender and pink in the middle, the scallops were beautifully seared, the pork belly succulent and crispy on the outside – I could go on and on!

Consequently, we have been back 4 times in the last 3 weeks with friends and family trying to spread the word about this wonderful little gem in the middle of what seemed like a culinary deadspot of the midlands, and having sampled just about everything on the menu now, I would honestly say there isn’t anything I wouldn’t order again and be over the moon with.

We’re not big drinkers, but there is a modest, but excellent selection of wines, beers, sherries and a great cocktail list, of which we might have sampled one or two!

All in all, well worth a visit if you’re looking for somewhere as a treat for a special occasion, or if you just want to share a great meal with friends.

We ordered plenty for two of us, approx 8 dishes, plus bread, 2 cocktails, soft drinks and the bill was £77 – Not the cheapest place in derby, but by far the best, so give it a go!!!

Make sure you book in advance as table are hard to come by.
